One of the things that I have always loved about Act software is the ability to expand its capabilities using add-on products.
Full Disclosure I am a partner at Keystroke and below is a list of the many add-ons that they have created and own. In addition to the add-ons listed below, other add-ons are available from other high-quality companies. The best way for me to help you interpret what tools might benefit your company is to speak to me about the way you use Act.
The list below is there to get your imagination going. The list below is there to make you start thinking differently about Act. What are all these tools? How can they benefit me? Are they worth the time and expense of implementing them?
Act is inexpensive off-the-shelf software with limitations. Developers have looked at those limitations and developed tools to overcome them. Just to be clear, all software has limitations.

Our Software Products
Whether you’re looking for industry verticals or feature horizontals, Keystroke has one of the largest selection of Actcessories on the market
As the largest reseller of Act! in the world, we’re often called upon to develop software solutions when Act! cannot do the job out of the box. These solutions have ranged from simple integration solutions, to free standing applications that work with Act! to improve our customer’s user experience.
Keystroke developed the Act4 line of vertical products to help professionals in certain industries, namely wealth management, mortgage brokering, real estate, tech support, and marketing, a little bit easier. The Act4 products have employed extensive industry feedback to build Act! solutions that fit these professionals business needs like a finely tailored suit.
Keystroke also developed the 4Act! line of horizontal products which offer utilities such as Importers, Telephony, Custom Tables, Automation, enhanced Office Integration, Quoting Tools, Deduping, and much more. The following represent a list of some of our more popular “Actcessories” we’ve developed in recent years, and are currently available for purchase or download:
Not all customers Act! integration needs are the same, and frequently we’re called upon to develop an application tailor made to suit one business’s unique requirements.
The development team at Keystroke has years of experience developing custom Windows & Web applictions for Act!, when the core product does not fit exactly as needed. The projects can range from custom crystal reports, to macro buttons, to full-fledge applications that run within Act!, and are tailor-made for a specific business’s needs. Whatever the case, Keystroke has the developers to deliver a solution for you.
Act! add-on development allows you to customize the Act! application precisely how you need it, with feature and security options not otherwise available within Act!
Our extensive knowledge of the Actcessories available can help you save time and money
Advanced custom table development and scripting can double the value of the Act! application.
When I teach people Microsoft Office I always suggest that they start by learning Microsoft Word. The fundamentals you’ll learn in Microsoft Word will carry over to all the other products you use within Microsoft Office.
The contact list in ACT is something that all ACT users use at some point in time. If you do a simple look-up in ACT it will return the results in ACT’s contact list view. Therefore, I strongly recommend that you start learning Impact Suite by learning Contact List Plus. If you learn this tool and some of the ways it functions you’ll be able to figure out almost everything else on your own.
Learning Contact List Plus gives you the fundamentals you’ll need to make the most of Jim Durkin’s Impact Suite. Watch these videos to get started:
There are many act add-on’s, also known as plug-ins, and I only use a fraction of them. It is my goal to help you become aware of the many different tools and offerings that will help you become a better acter.
We can explore them together and figure out if they’re worth the time, cost and energy to make them work for you. Do they offer simple instructions and guidance? Do they offer customer support? Training videos?
Tell me what you think of them and help me help you make them worth the time and energy. Thank you.
We’re pleased to announce that on Friday, September 8th, Handheld Contact submitted their latest build to Apple, (HHC v7.2 for IOS), that we expect to be available for download from the App Store sometime over this weekend. This build has been in production for months, and is by far the most expensive and comprehensive HHC release in recent years. HHC 7.2 represents a substantial rewrite of the calendar, contact, and task list features of the product, and includes many new features that we think our subscribers will enjoy.
These new features include the following:
Added “Keyword” search – you can now search through most of the contacts, activities, notes and histories fields. The Keyword Search will be position at the top of the Home Screen for easy access.
Added “Share” option in View contact screen that allows you to share contact’s information through vCard or plain text with available apps on your phone. Imagine the ease with which you’ll be able to refer one of your contacts to a colleague. Perfect for networkers!
Added “Save search as” option in Searches, to allow you to create many similar searches without having to create each from scratch. We’ve also included additional search operators to enhance your query capabilities.
The calendar now supports colour coded activities for easier calendar navigation
Added ability to easily swipe left a contact for new options like “Delete”. More options will be accessible with swiping left in subsequent releases.
Our new Alerts feature now provides you one place to look for daily or weekly upcoming events, and advises you of upcoming Annual Events like Birthdays or Anniversaries. Don’t miss an important event again with HHC alerts!
Subscription Reminder: Expiry reminder pop up added (14 days before expiry), notifying users when their HHC renewal is approaching.
Other changes in this build:
Enhanced security of product and improved account management tools
Complete architecture change for Contacts, Calendars, and Tasks Lists to improve performance and provide a better foundation for future feature growth in these areas.
A fully redesigned and optimized settings page
Orientation set to Portrait only for phones. Tablets keep both orientation modes
Edit option for notes and history removed from menu, but user can still create Notes and History items on the phone.
“Save text messages to Act!” – set to true by default
Redesigned Contact edit page for easier and faster entry of new contacts
I think it would be fair to say that the majority of Act users use Microsoft Outlook to send email, track contacts and calendar activities. Sometimes, Act and Outlook are like oil and vinegar, sister and brother, the Hatfields and the McCoys. They don’t always get along.
From the perspective of an Act user, any time you introduce another piece of software into the mix you increase the chances that something will not work as expected. It is not unusual for product updates to change or break things. My clients and readers of this blog know that I often recommend tools that work with Microsoft Outlook. My experience has been that on occasion those tools also stop working. So, if you can be patient and learn what needs to be done when this happens, you will be better off for it.
Normally, I recommend turning off Microsoft Outlook updates. My philosophy is simple, if it ain’t broke, don’t update the software. To turn off Microsoft Outlook updates please click on File | Office Account | then Update Options and choose Disable Updates.
